The Center for the Study of Southern Culture and Yoknapatawpha Arts Council have teamed up for Mississippi Creates, an event that pairs musical performance with short documentary films providing a glimpse into the creative life and environments of two local musicians; Tyler Keith and Schaefer Llana. This pair of films are part of a larger series highlighting artists and performers who have been influenced or inspired by the life, culture, or sounds of Mississippi. The screening, held on Sept. 10, included a live musical performance by Schaefer Llana and was followed by a brief Q&A with the musician and film directors Annemarie Anderson, currently an M.F.A. student, and Kelly Spivey, a recent M.F.A. graduate. Check out Annemarie’s film about Schaefer Llana, which was filmed at the Lyric Theatre in Oxford and recorded by Taproot Audio, and stay tuned for next week to see Kelly Spivey’s film.
