This short documentary highlights community-building and cultural memory through drumming and storytelling. Musician Jerry Jenkins educates Mississippi children about West African culture and the lineage of regional music traditions.


Elise-Joelle Denoulet was born in Lille, France, where she got her Bachelor’s degree in English. She moved to Mississippi in 2020, entering a Master of Arts in Journalism at the University of Mississippi. After graduating from that program in May 2022, Elise-Joelle now pursues a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Expression with the Center for the Study of Southern Culture.
