Living with ART (Mississippi Edition)
Through an intimate portrait series of films, explore how the unique cultural landscape of Mississippi influences the creative process of local artists such as Andrew Bryant, Anne Scott Barrett, Jared Spears, and Stephen Brown aka 5th Child.
The proposed artistic approach for this film involves showcasing the lives and stories of various artists through a blend of sit-down interviews, candid moments, and observational shots. Time-lapse and slow-motion shots will be incorporated to highlight changes in space or time and emphasize specific emotions. Doodly animations will be utilized for lower thirds, and drone and GoPro shots will provide a unique perspective on the art.
Music will be a critical component of the film, with a specially recorded song serving as the centerpiece. Background music, ambiance sound, and sound effects will be used to enhance the overall experience. The film will primarily use interview and walkthrough shots to narrate the story, and archival footage, animations, photos, and B-rolls will visually support the action taking place.
Sandip Rai is a Nepal-born, multi-talented individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies and a Master’s degree in Psychology from Tribhuvan University. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Southern Studies, where he combines his passions for film, culture, and storytelling. Sandip is a Graduate Assistantship in the Southern Documentary Project and is known for his leadership as the President of the Nepalese Student Association at Ole Miss (NEPSA), where he fosters a sense of community among fellow Nepalese students. He is also serving as an Ambassador for Graduate School at the University of Mississippi.
Apart from his academic achievements, Sandip loves to travel, meet new people, and explore different local foods. He is also a self-proclaimed anime enthusiast, and his belief that every story is unique and worth telling drives him to create compelling documentaries. Sandip’s dedication to his craft, coupled with his love for adventure and diverse experiences, make him a dynamic and passionate storyteller, who is committed to bringing untold stories to the forefront.
