Treasures of Jackson County

Janeth Jackson

I am inspired by change, and I use photography to highlight the world’s changes around me. I take photographs that reveal the old and new sites of Jackson County. This exploration helps me engage with my community in ways most have neglected. My goal is to help viewers understand how the Gulf Coast’s environment has developed over time and illustrate how one can find beauty in everything.

A native of Moss Point, MS, Janeth Jackson is pursuing an M.A. in Southern Studies. Jackson recently earned her B.A. from Tougaloo College in English. During her undergraduate career, Janeth was a Tom Joyner, UNCF, and Presidential Scholar. While attending Tougaloo, Janeth served as the Vice President of the Alpha Delta Alpha Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, where she implemented service projects for students in the Jackson metro area to ensure their academic success. She also volunteered for TRiO Student Support Services—forming alliances with teachers to assist students in low-income areas. Additionally, Janeth participated in Howard University’s Pre-PhD Summer Enrichment program, where she reported on the portrayal of African American women in television. Her current research focuses on Black communities and Southern Literature.
