Originally from Alabama, Martha Grace is concurrently pursuing an M.A. in Southern Studies and an M.A. in Anthropology. She completed her B.A. at the University of Mississippi in Anthropology with minors in Business Administration and Southern Studies. Prior to her graduate studies, Mize worked in the non-profit sector as a Civic Fellow (McKenzie Fellow) through the David Mathews Center for Civic Life. The position allowed her to work in the non-profit sector helping to build a new non-profit from the ground up with Main Street Marion (now Renaissance Marion) in Marion, AL. Her current research focuses on the modern Alabama Black Belt and how communities respond to economic challenges.
